Background: In the paper industry, fibers used for paper production are typically processed in water as a fiber suspension.
Topic: Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) – a non-intrusive optical method for visualizing and analyzing flow fields by tracking tracer particles. With the help of modern image acquisition and processing techniques, it is possible to directly observe the motion of fibers in suspension and determine their corresponding turbulent and fluid dynamic properties. In this thesis, your tasks will include,
•Investigating the effect of immersed fibers on flow structures and turbulence behavior.
•Studying how the flow, in turn, influences fiber motion and fiber agglomeration.
•Establishing correlations between the liquid and solid phases based on your observations.
Required Knowledge: Basic knowledge in fluid mechanics, Interest in experimental and laboratory work
