Since a really extensive (and good) summary of FATS has been given this semester, I only want to add a protocol of the exam-questions Prof. Schiefele has asked during my examination. The questions and answers are written down from my memory. If you have any remarks on the protocol please feel free to comment them, so the protocol can only get better.
Personally, I would recommend attending the lecture of Prof. Schiefele. During the last winter semester I was working a full-time job, hence attendance was not possible for me. During the exam a lot of wild questions were thrown at me, that I could have easily known from the lecture.
I found the atmosphere of the exam not too formal, and it was easy to talk and even discuss things during the examination. But don't take it too easy, because Prof. Schiefele has a very clear idea of what he wants to hear from you. Also note that questions are passed on from students that can't answer them. Personally, I am really against it and find it often unfair since there is the possibility that one only gets to answer passed on questions that are harder that the questions that get asked in the beginning. In this case, one student of the usual three attendants was missing, and we were just two students during the examination. The other student next to me said that he didn't prepare for the exam and only studied the night before (his words). This turned out to be an advantage for me because I got passed on a lot of very easy questions. The grading system is the same as with Avionics Systems Safety (ASS) or Flightmechanics II from FSR. You get a question and during your answer you collect points. It does not matter how long you take to give an answer, wrong or imprecise questions give you very little disadvantage. So just should not stop talking until you hit the things that are correct. If your answer is short, just keep on discussing the topic and even start talking about things the professor could ask next, to get more points out of the things you know. ("Should I also give examples to my answer?" "The definition of a multicopter is [...}, do you want me to list other UAV Types?", you get the idea) When Shiefele agrees you can talk about the stuff you know something about and you can keep collecting points. The exam ends when the WiMi says, enough questions have been asked for grading. So the more points you collect during one answer of the things you know, fewer questions will be asked when the exam ends. If Prof. Schiefele has to give hints, your points will be less. So try to use sentences like: "Let me think about this for a second" "I will have my answer in a second" so he does not give you hints. I landed a 1,7 with a really strong start (Schiefele mentiond I was on my way to the 1,0 at the beginning during grading) but at the end he asked some questions about a topic I knew only a few things, unfortunately. He said even his Boss came in to the lecture, to give a talk about it, but I didn't get the importance of the topic from the slides only, which was unfortunate but well... thats life. The student sitting next to me barely passed FATS.
